CC 8800-1 Twin

XXL-Crawlercrane from Liebherr

With a new crawlercrane in XXL-size Liebherr wants to compete with the CC 8800-1 Twin from Terex-Demag. The biggest ever built crawlercrane from Liebherr has a maximum load capacity of around 3.000 tonnes with a maximum load moment of nearly 50.000 tonne metres. These parameters make it more than twice as big as the current LR 11350.

The XXL-Crawler will be able to move under full load in complete configuration. Including a new super-heavy-boom, four different boom systems will be available for the crane.

All components have a width for transport under 4 metres with the exception of three units with a width of 4,25 metres. The heaviest part has a weight of 65 tonnes whereas nearly all components including counterweight slabs and power modules are containerized. As assist crane for the assembly a 200 tonnes crane is required. The crane is powered by two Liebherr-made V8 diesel engines.

The production of the boom sections has started in November and the crawlercrane is expected to be assembled for the first time on the testing pad in the second half of 2009.

Terex-Demag introduces CC 9800 crawler crane

This month crane manufacturer Terex-Demag will introduce the new CC 9800 crawler crane at the Zweibrücken factory. The crane is based on the known CC 8800-1. Rope system and hook block are already known from the bigger CC 8800-1 Twin. The new 1600 tonne crawler crane uses a 4 m wide boom system in order to gain a maximum load moment of 27000 tonne metres with attached superlift counterweight of 800 tonnes. The longest possible boom configurations are 156 m for the main boom and 120 m for the luffing jib. In combination the maximum lenght for the SWSL configuration is 108 + 120 m.

With 132 m of main boom and 18 m extension the crane fits perfectly for the assembly of the new Enercon E 126 wind turbines. This allows impressing lifting capacities of 360 tonnes to a hook height of 144 m.

The first customer, Sarens Group from Belgium, will take delivery of the new crane in January 2009. A second unit was already ordered from wind turbine manufacturer Enercon.
