Hitachi and Sumitomo join forces

With an accumulated 90 years of crane building experience, Hitachi and Sumitomo decided to join forces. Both companies having an unprecedented track record in lifting and duty cranes for the needs of the world wide market.

When Sumitomo started building excellent cranes, they could not have foreseen that some day they would embrace their quality competitor, Hitachi. Neither the world crane market could imagine the emergence of this giant joint venture operation, but it has been highly welcomed.

As the global crane market had been diminishing over the past 5 years, both manufacturers had to secure their volume - which is essential for research, development and economical production. Both key factors are now secure as Hitachi Sumitomo, together with their sister company Link-Belt (US), currently has one of the firmest positions on the world market.

In the Science City Tsuchiura, located near Tokyo, the new Research & Development Center makes it possible to execute the most modern demand of the crane market. It is the same location where in the Japanese high-tech production environment the crawler cranes from 30 to 100 tonnes lifting capacity are being manufactured.

The Obu factory located near Nagoya is taking care of the production of the models ranging from 100 tonnes to the enormous 800 tonne models. Further its engineering center can customize up to customers requests.

Hitachi Sumitomo set new standards in global approach as she recognizes that the crane business is no local industry. Machines must fulfill all the expectations of international construction and hiring companies. Low cost of ownership is an accumulation of many factors, i.e. purchase price, parts and support availability, lifetime and residual value. Last but not least, the extremely low downtime for which both Hitachi and Sumitomo are famous.

The promise of these precedents sets the challenge for Hitachi Sumitomo to work harder and more efficiently. The global dealer network of both Hitachi and Sumitomo is being integrated thus assuring the best resources. This by means of networking as well as serving the people with whom our customers have contact - and to whom they owe their confidence.

Anticipating the forthcoming Bauma in Munich, new models are being developed. New models with an even higher level of reliability and product quality. Today, the current models are being sold as the SCX series, incorporating all existing quality features.

Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV is the distributor for cranes under Hitachi Sumitomo brand in Europe, Russian Federation, Africa and Near-East.

In the UK and Ireland H.M. Plant and NRC Plant represent as a joint operation, whereby other areas will be served by the Hitachi Dealer Network in combination with Doornbos BV. and more new dealers.
