Essex orders Liebherr crawler cranes
Essex Crane Rental Corp, one of the world’s largest owners of lattice boom crawler cranes, has bought an undisclosed number of Liebherr crawler cranes. The deal follows Essex’s 2003 order with Liebherr-Nenzing for a customised variant of the duty cycle model HS 855 renamed the HS 855SX. The success of these duty cycle units is said to have paved the way for the latest purchase of more mainstream lift crane machines from Liebherr.
The crawler cranes include the LR 1100 a 115t lift crane and a customised variant of the Liebherr model LR 1200. The rating-modified LR 1200 will be marketed as the LR 1200SX. Essex said: “The LR 1200SX provides excellent lifting capability particularly with long boom and luffing jib configurations. Other outstanding crane features of both the LR 1100 and the LR 1200SX include mobility, high performance, dependability, and speed.”
Ron Schad, president and CEO of Essex Crane Rental Corp., said: “Essex prides itself as the crawler crane experts, and Liebherr has passed the Essex test for dependability and serviceability. Our management team has more expertise in this type of equipment than anyone. We closely monitored the performance of our Liebherr HS 855SX’s and were impressed with their performance”. Scott Moreland, vice president of US sales for Liebherr-Nenzing, added: “Essex’s relationships with crawler crane end users give Liebherr an incredible market opportunity. The feedback provided by Essex enhanced our product development process on the LR 1200. Their design input provides priceless benefits for us, and our customers.”
Gernot Schranz, vice president of Liebherr-Nenzing Crane Company, said: “A follow-up order from Essex makes a fantastic statement regarding the quality and value of Liebherr- Nenzing crawler cranes. The Essex team is synonymous with crawler cranes; they know them as well as anyone”. Essex Crane Rental Corp has more than 420 cranes and attachments in its fleet.

Manitowoc and Kobelco extend alliance to Europe
The OEM agreement that sees Manitowoc selling Kobelco lattice boom crawler cranes in its own colours is being extended to Europe, the two companies announced during the Conexpo show in Las Vegas. As in the Americas region, Kobelco will supply Manitowoc with cranes up to 100t (110 US ton) capacity. Manitowoc will add Kobelco’s 55t, 80t, 90t and 100t capacity models to its product offering in Europe from July. Kobelco will continue to sell in competition with Manitowoc in Europe, just as it does in the Americas.
Last year Kobelco was the crawler crane market leader in Europe, taking more than a third of all sales. A particularly strong seller was the the 80t class CKE 800. Manitowoc Crane Group president Glen Tellock said: “Manitowoc Crane Group is very excited about our expanding relationship with Kobelco Cranes. The fact is that both companies have a similar outlook on customers, products, and service. These similarities have allowed us together to find ways to better serve our customers.” Kobelco Cranes president Takashi Ishida said: “We recently held a launching ceremony for Kobelco branded all-terrain cranes for the Japanese market, supplied by Manitowoc [Grove]. Our customers are showing good response to the newly introduced models. I truly believe that Manitowoc is the best alliance partner in the industry.”

CC 1500 :The new CC 1500 is a crawler crane based on the technology of the very successful CC 1800-1 but in a lighter version without Superlift attachment. The crane has a max. lifting capacity of 300 US-tons. This crane has been developed mainly for the US market to compete against the Manitowoc 999 and the Liebherr LR 1280 but is also very interesting for customers all over the world.
AC 110: The new AC 110 combines the practice-proven technology of the AC 100 with the outstanding new technology of the AC 160-1. The crane features a powerful superstructure, a 50 m main boom, and the 33 m boom extension of the renowned 100-tonner. To satisfy the US road regulations, the crane is equipped with the newly developed carrier of the 160-tonner with special US axle configuration and axle loads of less than 10 t. The carrier features the new speed-dependent rear axle steering and thus sets new standards in terms of both travel convenience and maneuverability.
AC 200-1: The new AC 200-1 with its 68 m boom is the longest in its category and provides a tremendous system length of 100 m. This is a very strong and versatile crane with 4 outrigger positions as standard, featuring the new electro-hydraulic rear axle steering and the ingenious crane control system IC-1.
AC 160-1: The new AC 160-1 is the little brother of the AC 200-1. The technology and many of its features are very similar to the AC 200-1, the boom length is 64 m with a system length of 96 m. Compared to the AC 200-1, this crane is roadable with 2.1 t of counterweight while axle loads keep within the 12 t limit. The AC 160-1 is one of the world’s first cranes that have been designed to satisfy most of the road regulations all over the world, using a special axle configuration for the carrier.
